There are a lot of interesting tourist places in India. As I mentioned I only share with you the places which I think are famous tourist places in India for you to travel across India.
Firstly, If you are a foreigner and travelling first time to India then I Welcome you to India. Travelling to India is a big task for a foreigner that’s why I am here to help you.
This guide is for both Indians and Non-Indians but I personally think that an Indian do not need a guide to travel across India.
India is mainly divided into two parts North India and South India. Both have different cultures, languages, lifestyles, foods etc. You can see a lot of diversity in India.
There are 22 languages according to the constitution of India. But there are more than thousands of mother tungs in India. Hindi, Assamese, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Kashmiri, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tamil Telugu, Urdu, Bodo, Santhali, Maithili, Dogri are the 22 languages.
Nowadays, travelogues are at their peak everybody on youtube publishing their travel stories. It is not bad but I personally suggest you make a travelogue while you are travelling India.

Amritsar
Amritsar is a city related to partition and the Sikh community. It is a part of many famous tourist places in India for many foreigners and fellow Indians.
The Golden Temple(Shri Harmandir Sahib)
The attraction of Gurudwara Shri Harmandir Sahib is its two-storey structure covered with gold. It is surrounded by a lake of 5.1 meters in depth. It is one of the sacred places of the Sikh community.
To enter the Temple you need to cover your hair, remove your shoes and move through the water to cleanse your feet.
Then you go for the clockwise walk of Temple and worship the Shri Guru Granth Sahib.
The main attraction for foreigners is the Word’s Largest Community Kitchen. You can savour the vegetarian food with others by sitting on the floor. It is totally free and you can help others to prepare or cook the food.

Wagah Border
It is 30 Km to the west of Amritsar city. Here you can join the border closing “Beating the Retreat” ceremony which is held every evening. Wagah is the place in Pakistan and Attari is the place in India. Indians call it Wahga border while Pakistanis call it the Attari border.
It is the international between India and Pakistan. Soldiers from both countries march in perfect drills and after that bring down their respective national flags.
Durgiana Temple
It is built in the third decade of the 20th century. It is close to the Golden temple, near the railway station and 1.5 km away from the bus stand of Amritsar.
Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya in 1924 on Ganga Dashmi day laid the foundation stone of the Durgiana Temple. It is the reflection of the Golden Temple and the traditional Hindu architecture.
The exquisite doors of the temple are made with silver that’s why it is called the Silver Temple. Here Hindu devotees worship Hindu goddess Lakshmi, Durga and God Vishnu.
Most religious people visit this place but every tourist appreciates the atmosphere of the temple.
Jallian Wala Bagh
It is the monument of 379 Indians who are killed, 1200 wounded and shot. General Michael O’dyer under British rule indiscriminately killed all the Indians on 13 April 1919.
It covers around 7 acres of area and it owns a museum, gallery and several memorial structures. The entrance to the Jalianwala Bagh is through the narrow street. It is the only entry and exit at the time of the massacre and O’dyer took this path to the grounds.
Sardar Udham Singh was left alive in this incident and took revenge for this massacre from Michael O’dyer.
Partition Museum
The partition of India contains the most defining events in the history of the subcontinent. It is the largest mass migration in human history and extensive loss to life and property.
The Arts and Cultural Heritage Trust, New Delhi, India, came to the goal of setting up the first museum and memorial of partition. Lady Kishwar Desai lead the small group of people to fill an unfilled space.
In the first half of 2015, various meetings and consultations were held with people, artists, journalists, filmmakers authors, partition survivors, who are leading experts of the partition.
In August 2015, a public consultation with young and old to share their support and thoughts with over approx 1500 participants.
It collects art, refugee artefacts and archival material. The museum is the only institution in the world that is entirely devoted to partition.
Now Partition Museum is open for all and you can visit to check the heritage of the Indian culture.
Gobindgarh Fort
It is the most iconic symbol of Punjab. Gobindgarh Fort is an attraction of people for the history and culture of Amritsar.
The heritage has a glorious history on its own. The Punjab region is ruled by misls(clans) and in 1760 Gujjar Singh Bhangi built this as a mud fortress. Previously it is known as ‘Bhagian the Qilla’.
The Gobindgarh Fort is linked to Maharaja Ranjit Singh and his glory.
Khalsa College
It is the historical college situated on Grand Trunk Road in an area of 300 acres founded in 1892. Khalsa College is part of the GNDU(Guru Nanak Dev University) and academically affiliated with GNDU.
Kolkata
Before Delhi, Kolkata is the capital of India and it was written as Calcutta in past. It is one of the famous tourist places in India and has warm weather.
Howrah Bridge
It is a suspension bridge hanging upon the Hooghly river without any pillars. Howrah is the gateway of Kolkata, you have to cross from the bridge to go to the other parts of the state. It is close to the railway station in Kolkata.
This bridge is built without the use of any nut and bolt, all structure is riveted. It is the longest cantilever bridge when it is commissioned.
Howrah bridge is connected to the World Wars. Howrah bridge is the replacement of the old pontoon bridge, which was halted due to the first World War.
You can enjoy the cruises of the Ganga river like breakfast cruises, lunch cruises, evening and dinner cruises. Each cruise is 3 hours long.
Fort William
It is an example of British architecture and the famous tourist spot of Kolkata. Fort William built-in Calcutta on the eastern bank of the Hooghly river.
It is named after the name of King William 3 of England and Ireland and 2 of Scotland. Fort William is comprised of wings and an inner bastion where prisoners were pulled. It is also known as ‘The black haul of Calcutta.
Fort William is the property of the Indian Army and has the capacity to held 10,000 soldiers at a time.
Park Street
Park Street is also known as Mother Teresa Sarani and it is a busy street. The street starts from Jawahar Lal Nehru Road and stretches will Park Circus Crossing.
It is said that park street never sleeps and there are activities in the market all day and night. Part Street contains many pubs and restaurants.
The street is decorated with lights to celebrate the festivals Diwali, New Year, Christmas etc. This place is here from the times of the British Empire.
Indian Museum
Indian Museum is the largest and oldest museum of India in Kolkata and the ninth oldest museum in the world. The present museum is opened in 1875 comprises sections of geology, zoology, industry, archaeology, art, ethnology etc. It has a library also.
Asiatic Society of Bengal founded the museum in 1814 at Kolkata. It is the autonomous organization under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. If you love to read about heritage then it is the place to visit for you.
Dakshineswar Kali Temple
It is the Hindu Temple located in Dakshineswar, Kolkata. The Temple is situated on the easter bank of the Hooghly river.
Bhavatarini or Parashakti Adya Kali or Adishakti Kalika the Indian goddess is the presiding deity in the temple. Rani Rashmoni, a devotee of kali, built the temple in 1855.
It also has twelve shrines dedicated to Shiva and Kali along the riverfront, a bathing place(ghat) along the river, a temple of Radha Krishna and the shrine dedicated to Rani Rashmoni. If you visit the ghat then you can see the Howrah bridge.
Old Chinatown
Old Chinatown is primarily known as Tiretta bazaar named after Edward Tiretta. He is an immigrant from Venice, who was the owner and land surveyor in the old Chinatown.
It contains the culture of the local Chinese immigrant community. It is the place of Chinese Indian population of 20,000 in the 19th century but now there only 2000 people approx. Old Chinatown is also famous for its Chinese street cuisine. It can satisfy all your shopping needs, make sure you visit the place.
Science city
The Science City in Kolkata is the largest science centre in India. National Council of Science Museum India managed this place under the command of the Ministry of Culture.
It comprises of earth exploration hall, space theatre and dynamic hall. Most students visit science city but it is the attraction of many tourists. It is opened on 1st July 1997.
Science City Kolkata is located in Eastern Metropolitan Bypass at J.B.S. Haldon Avenue.
Eden Garden
It is the oldest and second-largest cricket stadium in India in Kolkata. The stadium has a capacity of 68000 and is often referred to as the home of Indian Cricket.
There is a crowd of 95000 in the Cricket World Cup final in 1987. This stadium and established in 1864. It is named after the oldest park of Kolkata which is named after the Eden sisters of Lord Auckland.
It is not merely a tourist place but you can visit this place if you are touring around Kolkata.
Marble Palace
It is the deluxe nineteenth-century mansion in North Kolkata. Raja Rajendra Mullick built the palace in 1835, he is a wealthy Bengali merchant who is passionate about collecting arts.
It has many Western Sculptures, European and Indian Paintings and pieces of Victorian furniture.
Belur Math
Belur Math is located on the west bank of the Hooghly river, Belur, Kolkata. Swami Vivekananda, the chief disciple of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, founded the Belur Math. It is the headquarters of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna mission.
It has the full-size statue of the Shri Ramakrishna on a hundred petalled Lotus over a Damru shaped marble Pedestal. Belur Math also contains Swami Vivekananda temple, Holy Mother temple, Swami Brahmananda’s temple and Ramakrishna Museum.

Delhi
Delhi is the capital of India and the centre of all politics of India. I think it is the most polluted and congested area of India. Delhi is one of the famous tourist places in India and most tourists land at the airport of Delhi.
If you visiting Delhi First time then beware of the thieves because it has it lot. Rest the places of tourism in Delhi are given below.
The Red Fort
The Red Fort is also called in Hindi the Lal Qila. It is a historic place in old Delhi and the main residence of the Mughal Emperors.
Shah Jahan commissioned the construction of Red Fort on 12 May 1638. He started the construction because he decided to move to Delhi from Agra. Ustad Ahmed Lahori was the architect of the Fort, he also designed the Taj Mahal in Agra.
Rest you can see the place by visiting it in your touring.
Qutub Minar
Qutub Minar’s construction started around 1192 by Qutub Ud din Abak. He is the first ruler of the Delhi Sultanate. It is made as the symbol of victory after the defeat of Delhi’s last Hindu Kingdom.
The height of Qutab Minar is 73m. The tower has five storeys. The first three stories are made with red sandstone and the next 2 or last 2 stories are made with marble and sandstone.

Gurudwara Bangla Sahib
Sikh General Baghel Singh built a small shrine in 1783 and King Raja Jai Singh Amer donated the bungalow for it. It is situated near Cannaught Place, New Delhi on Baba Kharak Singh Marg.
The Place includes Gurudwara, a kitchen, a holy pond, a school and an art gallery. As per the other gurudwaras, the concept of langar is practised and all without the racism may eat in the langar hall.
The Lotus Temple
It is a prominent attraction of the city. Temple is open for all without any racism against caste and religion. The temple is based on the concept of Baháʼí Faith is a new religion and teaches us that all religions are equal and all religions can gather for worship.
The uniqueness of the place is its design and architecture. It has many awards and publications of more than 500.
The India Gate
India Gate is the war memorial that came into existence in December 1917 under British rule for war graves and memorial to soldiers killed in First World War.
Sir Edwin Lutyens designed the Gate. He is also a member of The Imperial War Graves Commission and one of Europe’s foremost designers of War graves and memorials. Edwin is the main architect of Delhi at that time.
Jama Masjid
Jama Masjid is one of the largest mosques in India. Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan built this masjid in 1650 to 1656. It is built at the highest point of Shahjahanabad.
Ustad Khalil Designed the Masjid and constructed it by 5000 workers. Syed Abdul Gafoor Bukhari from Bukara Uzbekistan inaugurated the mosque on 23 July 1656.
All Muslims of the area gather on Friday for Communal Prayer. Its orientation is towards Mecca in Saudi Arabia. It can accommodate 25000 people at a time.
Swaminarayan Akshardham
Akshardham is the Hindu Temple located at the border of Noida. The main attraction of the Swaminarayan complex is the Akshardham mandir.
It exhibits the Sahajanad darshan(Hall of values), Nilkanth Darshan(Theatre), Sanskruti Vihar(Boat ride), Musical Fountain and Garden of India.
The Spiritual Head of Swaminarayan Sanstha Yogiji Maharaj envisioned the planning in 1968. The temple is on the bank of the Yamuna river.
The National Museum
The National Museum in New Delhi is one of the largest museums in India. It was established in 1949 and situated on Janpath.
It has various artefacts from Indus Valley Civilization. The museum houses the National Museum Institute of History of Arts. The museum contains 200,000 works of art covering 5000 years.
The golden temple, The Lotus temple, Howrah Bridge, Eden Garden, Qutub Minar are some of the most famous tourist places in India. I share images of a few places to see all you should visit the places.
