Ranveer Singh’s upcoming movie Cirkus is based on the story of Sanjeev Kumar’s ‘Angoor‘ and William Shakespeare’s play ‘The Comedy of Errors‘.

Career

Sanjeev Kumar’s real name was Harihar Jethalal Jariwala. He was born on 9 July 1938 in Surat to a Gujarati Brahmin family. He had two younger brothers and one sister.

Sanjeev started his career with IPTA(Indian People’s Theatre Association) in Mumbai and later joined the Indian National Theatre. At the start of his career, he played older roles in the plays.

Sanjeev Kumar made his debut with the movie Hum Hindustani in 1960. He worked in a lot of remakes of South Indian movies that represent him as a great actor.

His most recognized roles are Thakur Baldev Singh in Sholay and Raj Kumar aka R.K. Gupta in Trishul.

He acted in so many regional movies. He has 2 national awards for the movies Dastak and Koshish and many others for his work as an actor.

He played older roles at a very early age, one of them was Arthur Miller’s All My Sons adaptation in theatre. Sawan Kumar Tak, producer, and director, gave him the name Sanjeev Kumar during his days in Indian National Theatre plays.

Professor Ki Padosan is the last movie of Sanjeev Kumar that was released after his death. He only completed 3/4 of the shooting. Later the shooting is completed in a way that can be justified.

Death Cause

The cause of Sanjeev Kumar’s death was a severe heart attack on 6 November 1985 which resulted in death. He got his first heart in 1976 after which he went for a bypass from the USA. His younger brother Nakul died before him and his elder brother Kishore died six months later.

More than 10 movies by Sanjeev Kumar were released after his death with the last one being Professor ki Padosan.

Personal life

Sanjeev Kumar’s Nickname is Haribhai.

Sanjeev Kumar hadn’t married in his entire life, he proposed to Hema Malini in 1973, and they were in touch till his first heart attack.

Later he received a proposal from actress Sulakshana Pandit but he denied as a result she decided not to marry anyone in his entire life.

His brother Kishore was a music director while Nakul was a film producer. His sister Leela Jariwala was an actress. She acted in three movies Tanariri, Ardh Satya, and Kashino Dikro.
