Guru Purnima 2024 – Quotes, Wishes, & Speech

Guru Purnima is a Hindu festival celebrated to honor and express gratitude towards our gurus. It is observed or hailed on the full moon day (Purnima) in the Hindu month of Ashadha, which usually falls in June or July of the Gregorian calendar. This year it is on 21 July 2024.

The word “guru” is derived from Sanskrit which means “teacher” or “guide.” In Hinduism, the role of a guru is highly revered as they are considered instrumental in a person’s spiritual growth and enlightenment.

As you all know, Guru Purnima is a time to acknowledge the wisdom and knowledge imparted by gurus and express reverence towards them.

During Guru Purnima, disciples show respect to their gurus by offering them special food, performing rituals, and seeking their blessings. Students from various spiritual and educational disciplines gather to celebrate the occasion and express gratitude. It is usual to present gifts and offerings to gurus as a token of appreciation for their guidance.

The festival holds significance beyond Hinduism as well. It is celebrated in Buddhism also to commemorate Lord Buddha‘s first sermon, known as Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta, which he delivered to his five disciples on this day.
